For some reason, I can't get the command prompt window to close itself after a simple command.I have two batch files running around our backup software. Before the backup, a batch file is called to close outlook.exe through a taskkill command. This is so that we can copy the PST files to our fileserver (as sometimes when outlook is open the files are locked.) The second batch file just calls to reopen outlook.My command is as follows:'C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice12outlook.exe'exitI've tried using the 'start' command at the beginning of the path to outlook.exe but for some reason it won't open outlook, and just opens a new cmd window. I know that when start is used by itself it will do that, but it's not recognizing the path to the executable I want to open. The 'exit' command isn't doing anything either. With the command above, outlook will open, but the CMD window stays open, and the exit command is never called.

I've also tried adding a taskkill command to kill cmd.exe but nothing after the opening of outlook is getting called.In short, I need a batch file that will open outlook and close the CMD window. I'm sure this can be done with other tools (like pstools, etc) but I'd prefer to do it with the stock XP commands, as I'll have to implement this on about 100 PC's and the shorter the process the better.Thanks! I'm glad your fixed but you may also want to try this ( I had to use this before upgrading my backup software),Have the server that host the PST files run a scheduled batch file before the backup that has the following command in it:net session /deleteThis will end all connections with anything opened by clients on this server. Outlook will reconnect when it's used and never needs to be closed.I would also look into using a new backup software that uses VSS for backuips, this takes care of open file issues.
